A dream came true last month, when my family travelled to Cape Town. It’s a beautiful city with fantastic natural beauty and a sad history.

Visiting Robben island and looking back in time at Mandela’s cell with a single bucket was horrifying. Prisoners were dehumanised by those in power with a single bucket – for use both as a toilet in their cell and for ‘clean’ water for bathing outdoors. It will probably take years before all citizens have ‘equal’ opportunities.

However this post is about my love for gardens and my visit to Kirstenbosch. It is one of the biggest botanical gardens I have visited. Absolutely worth a trip if you happen to be in Cape Town.
