Last year we set up a new bed in the garden. The idea was to start growing more herbs and maybe vegetables. A colleague had told me that garlic needs to be planted late autumn before the frost sets in the ground. So I ordered a couple of garlic bulbs online and planted the garlic pods in late October.
The weather this year however was erratic at best. Hot and dry for weeks at a time and then a lot of rain causing water logging. As a first time, garlic harvester I was anxious to see how the garlic had managed over the summer. However, the garlic turned out amazing.
It has been fun to use home grown garlic in my cooking. So this autumn, we bought another three types of hard neck garlic bulbs – Valdres, Morado and Primor, from the school garden in the neighborhood . The one that I am looking forward to especially is the Valdres garlic, especially the bulbils that will be ready for planting next year.
