In earlier posts, I talked about how I was coping with immunotherapy. The treatment did have a number of known side effects and I noticed some of them. Immunotherapy was stopped after two year of treatment, as recommended, in August last year.
Life for me continues as normal, though at a slightly slower pace than earlier. I continue to work, often part time. We have prioritized family time and travel since treatment stopped.
It started off with a family trip to South Africa, last September, which was amazing. A visit to Robyn island where Nelson Mandela was in prison for years and meeting an earlier inmate and witness from the days of apartheid was a tough journey back in time.
2024 started badly when we had to postpone our planned trip to India. As I got stronger, my husband and I took a long weekend in Istanbul to get away from the cold Easter weather and spend a few days exploring the city together. Back in Oslo, I had to undergo a few rounds of radiation.
Later in the spring, we did a road trip in Canada together with my brothers and their families to celebrate my youngest brother’s 50th birthday. This was the first time that we spent a few days together, after many years. It was a wonderful feeling!
Summer was perfect this year! My garden did really well since it rained regularly and that meant that I did not need to worry about watering my plants. We spent time a few weeks together as a family, both in Norway and in Montenegro. It was energizing!
In September, I started up with a new round of immunotherapy due to a change in the lymph nodes in the chest. For now the treatment is going well.
While on holiday with my husband’s siblings in Serbia in September, I needed emergency medical assistance due to another issue. I spent 2 days in hospital, it was stressful but comforting to have family with us at that time.
Even though I have been in hospital and needed additional treatment a couple of times, this last year has been one of the most wonderful years for me. My husband and I have had the opportunity to spend time with our sons and their partners, my brothers and their families and my husband’s siblings.
Additionally, we have been to a couple of music festivals with our dear friends while close friends from Mumbai have visited us in Oslo. Living in Norway, away from family, it is not often one gets the chance to meet people that are dear to you. Meeting all of them in the last year has been extra special to me.
November has just started and I am looking forward to Christmas together and bringing in the New year!
