An eventful April

April 2025 has been eventful in many ways. Spring is in the air and I have started to clear up the flower beds and get the garden in shape. It’s wonderful to see the garden get greener for each passing day.

Easter was spent in Oslo, with a few days in hospital to monitor an air pocket that formed on the side of my lung. Not the best news, but thankfully it ended well without the need for any surgical procedure. We spent a lovely Easter eve with friends and a family dinner with a leg of lamb in a harissa and garlic rub for Easter Sunday.

The last weekend in April was spent in Bergen, attending the annual general body meeting and conference for the Norwegian Lung cancer association. I had the task of presenting the annual accounts for 2024 and the proposed budget for 2025.

It was good to meet members from across the country and share experiences and feel the positivity. One does not choose lung cancer or any other illness but one can learn to live the best possible life with it.

The weather in Bergen was great so we took a trip on the Fløibanen – the funicular railway that runs from the centre of Bergen to Mount Fløyen (320 m above sea level). https://www.floyen.no/floibanen/historie (This history page is only available in Norwegian currently )

We also had the opportunity to do a guided walking tour through Bryggen, included on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Bryggen that is currently standing was rebuilt after the great fire in 1702. https://www.visitnorway.com/listings/bryggen-in-bergen/5200/ Today precautions are taken to avoid such a disaster with sprinkler systems installed both within and on the roofs of the buildings.

The month ends with a bronchoscopy, and a new phase of medication that starts in May. 😊
