Thecha

Indian cuisine includes a variety of pickles, chutneys and thecha is one of these. Eaten mainly in Maharashtra on the west coast of India, thecha is enjoyed with a light meal of bhakri, rotis or rice and dal. Since we were not able to buy this in Oslo, I decided to try making some. It’s super tasty and easy to make. Worth a try 😌

Ingredients

2 tbsp cooking oil ( I use rapeseed oil)

40 gms green chili

40 gms garlic, peeled

1 dl salted roasted peanuts

Juice of one lime

Putting it together

In a wide frying pan add 2 tablespoons of cooking oil and the chilies and garlic. Fry these gently on medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is lightly charred on all sides.

Add the peanuts to the pan and leave to cool.

Once cooled, move the ingredients to a blender jar. Add a teaspoon of salt and blend using the pulse setting to keep the mixture chunky.

Add 2/3 of the juice of the lime and blend again. Move the thecha mixture to a glass bowl and adjust the salt and lime, to taste.

Enjoy with rice and dal or with rotis and a vegetable. Store in the fridge.
